Box Chick asked:

I’m 31, over weight and bipolar. What would be the best medicine? How much would it cost? I take Zoloft now.

I all depends on you- you may have to try a few. Not all people respond the same to all medications. I would recomend Lithium. But that one, you have to have a blood test every month to make sure your “levels ” like sodim and such, are right in your body. Also, talk to your doctor about what he/she would recommend, they know your medical history and other problems you may have that may impact what medicine may be good for you. Good Luck.

This matter should be discussed with your doctor. He will try you on a few different meds to suit your particular concerns. If you are not happy with Zoloft tell him and of your weight concerns…he may add a med to help you with that or it may be counterproductive. Your primary concern should be your bipolar disorder. Half of America is overweight so you are not alone in that department. Best of luck.

See bipolar disorder at on page 2 (read the whole page & intro). Avoid Scientology like the plague that it is! (Dianetics too).

My boyfriend is bipolar and his hand permanently shakes all the time from the side effect of lithium. He will have this for the rest of his life.

I take Zoloft and Wellbutrin with no side effects. I have a lot of energy on Wellbutrin. Of course everyone reacts differently, but you have to experiment with these various medications and switch if there are bad side effects. Eventually, you will find a medication that suites you fine. Good Luck!
